This is a great meter as a beginner because its very easy to read and use. You should look for a reading between 2.0 and 7.0 mG. or in that range. The reading should appear and then disappear. If you cannot find it again then its a moving EMF field and there should not be any. Many theories say that these unexplainable EMF reading are detecting some sort of spirit activity either occurring or about to occur .Runs on 9v batteries, not included.
